A view taken from the south of Crieff, the Perthshire market town in the Strathearn valley at the edge of the Highlands, is the subject here. The Detroit Publishing Company issued the print from the photochrom process, which it licensed from the Swiss firm Photoglob and which built up color through several hand-prepared lithographic stones. Crieff was a popular Victorian resort, and views like this one were sold as souvenirs of Scottish towns and scenery. The record dates the original photograph to between about 1890 and 1900, and the company's catalog entry is from 1905.
