The view shows the Hydropathic at Crieff, a Perthshire establishment that drew visitors to the town for its water treatments and fresh Highland air, as spa culture prized in Victorian Britain. Such hydropathic houses offered baths, exercise and rest, and Crieff's sat on the edge of the hills, which made it a fashionable retreat. The color comes from the photochrom process, which printed a photograph from several lithographic stones, one per color. The Detroit Publishing Company sold views like this one of Scotland, and this print is listed as number 13033 in its 1905 catalog.
