Colt's Patent Arms Company's manufactory in Hartford appears here as an engraving published on page 134 of *Asher & Adams' Pictorial Album of American Industry*, issued in 1876. Samuel Colt built the firm around his revolving pistol, and by the 1870s the Hartford works was one of the best-known arms factories in the country. The album appeared in the Centennial year, when publishers were eager to show American manufacturing to a national audience, so the view also reflects the period's pride in its factories.
