Adolph Dehn's lithograph shows Central Park after dark, a subject that was less common in American printmaking of the 1930s than daytime views of the city's parks and streets. Dehn, a printmaker known for his atmospheric treatment of urban life, made this work in 1934 and signed and titled it in pencil, and the print was later printed by George Miller in an edition of 100. The image is a reminder of how the park's nighttime landscape held a different kind of appeal during the Depression, when the city's public spaces were places where people from all walks of life gathered after dark.
