The title line, "Benjamin Franklin, L.L.D. F.R.S.," sets this print apart. The letters stand for an honorary doctorate in law and membership in the Royal Society, honors Franklin held by the 1760s, when engravers often printed them beside his likeness. The record gives no date, so the print is best read as a period portrait rather than a record of a specific sitting. It was mounted with a second, untitled bust of Franklin, which suggests the two were kept together as a pair.
