An engraving by T.B. Welch, made after a painting by an artist named Martin, presents Benjamin Franklin in profile-style portrait form. Franklin, the printer, scientist and diplomat, never served as president, despite this board's category, but he was a central figure of the founding era. He helped negotiate the 1783 Treaty of Paris and signed the Constitution in 1787. The card gives no date for the print, and its attributions come from older records that have not been independently checked, so the sheet is best read as a later rendering of a well-known likeness.
