A streetcar carrying a sign for the New Detroit Opera House anchors this view, which the cataloger titled as a safety demonstration. The record does not say who staged it, but two close variant glass negatives from the Detroit Publishing Company survive, and the firm photographed the city's streets and transit in the years before it wound down in the 1920s. Street railway safety campaigns of that era aimed to teach pedestrians and motorists to keep clear of trolleys, which were a common source of injuries on crowded city streets.
