This print reproduces an architect's drawing of the Knox County Courthouse in Knoxville, Tennessee, rather than a photograph of the building itself. The drawing comes from Palliser, Palliser & Co., a New York firm whose published catalog of courthouse and town hall designs was used by counties and towns looking for ready-made plans in the late nineteenth century. Because the record is based on older caption information that has not been verified, it is unclear how closely the drawing matches the structure as it was actually built. The image is still useful for seeing how a county seat's civic architecture was presented to the public in about 1889.
