The drawbridge and the foreign visitors in this drawing set it apart from the courtesan and actor scenes that dominate Japanese prints. The catalog subjects place it in Tokyo between 1850 and 1900, a span that starts a few years before 1868, when Edo was renamed Tokyo and the city opened to Western diplomats and travelers. The attribution to Isoda Koryūsai, who was active as a painter from about 1764 to 1788, does not match the 1750 date in the record, so the dating is worth treating with caution.
