A drawbridge in Tokyo, with foreign visitors, is the subject named for this drawing, which sets it apart from the beauty portraits and street scenes most often associated with Isoda Koryūsai, an artist recorded as active in Edo from 1764 to 1788. The record's dates do not agree: it gives 1750 as the date, while the subject headings place the scene between 1850 and 1900. Edo became Tokyo only in 1868, so researchers should check these details against other sources before relying on any one of them.
