Central Presbyterian Church stood at Third and I Streets in Washington, D.C., a corner of the city's downtown grid where churches, offices, and residences stood side by side. The image survives as a glass negative from the National Photo Company, a firm that documented the nation's capital in the early twentieth century, and its catalog dates this one to between 1910 and 1935. Viewers should notice the streaks and blemishes across the plate, which come from the natural breakdown of the original emulsion coatings and are part of the negative's physical history.
