Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church stands in the Chevy Chase neighborhood, which grew up on the District's northwest edge in the early twentieth century as a streetcar suburb along the Maryland line. The picture is a glass negative from the National Photo Company, a Washington firm that documented the city and its surroundings for postcards and commercial sale in the years before and after 1910. The record dates it only to a span between 1910 and 1925, and the place name comes from the studio's own notes, so it has not been independently verified. Visitors may notice streaks and blemishes, which the catalogers attribute to deterioration of the original glass coatings.
