Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church stands in the Chevy Chase neighborhood on the northwest edge of the District, an area that grew quickly in the early twentieth century as streetcar lines carried residents out from downtown. The National Photo Company, which documented Washington and its surroundings in the 1910s and 1920s, likely made this glass negative in that span, and Herbert A. French donated it to the Library of Congress in 1947. The streaks and blemishes across the glass come from the natural deterioration of its original coatings, so they reflect the negative's age rather than the scene itself.
