The U.S. Capitol, home of Congress, is the subject of this glass negative, which the record dates only to a range between 1910 and 1925. The National Photo Company worked in Washington during roughly those years, producing a large body of views of the city's government buildings and monuments. The Capitol's cast-iron dome, completed in 1866, is the feature most viewers will recognize. Look for the streaks and blemishes across the image, which come from natural deterioration of the original coatings on the glass rather than from the photographer's choices.
