Most stereographs of Niagara Falls show the cataract itself, so this card stands apart: it is a genre scene of children building a snowman, titled "The Snow Man: Happy Days." George Barker, who issued many stereo views from the Niagara region in the 1880s, made it around 1888. Cards like this were sold for parlor stereoscopes, where paired images merged into a single three-dimensional scene. The sentimental title and the playful subject reflect a popular taste for winter childhood pictures in that decade.
