The steamer Puritan worked the Fall River Line, the overnight route between New York and Fall River, Massachusetts, where passengers continued by train to Boston. The line was known for its spacious staterooms and dining saloons, and its ships were among the best-known vessels on Long Island Sound. This 8 by 10 inch glass negative came from the Detroit Publishing Company, whose photographers traveled widely around 1900 recording American cities, scenery and transportation. The date of about 1902 is an estimate.
