The steamer *Asbury Park* is the subject of this view, named in the title and on the glass negative, which carries the "Detroit Photographic Co." imprint and a catalog number from the company's later Detroit Publishing Co. listing. Steamboats were central to passenger travel and freight on American waterways at the time, and vessels like this one were a frequent subject for the firm's photographers. The plate is dated only to between 1903 and 1905, when the company was producing large-format views for travelers and collectors. The negative reached the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
