Plowing under surplus crops and livestock was one of the New Deal's most controversial farm policies, and this 1936 Los Angeles poster advertises a stage production that dramatized it. The play, *Triple-A Plowed Under*, was a Federal theater Project "Living Newspaper," a form that turned current events and government programs into fast-moving documentary drama. The silkscreen print was made under the Work Projects Administration, and its bold flat color reflects the technique the WPA's poster units used to promote theater, music and art programs to the public.
