The scene on this 1895 poster shows the arrival of the regiments, with kilted Scottish soldiers and their weapons prominent, a detail that marks it as an advertisement for Sidney R. Ellis's melodrama *Bonnie Scotland*. Strobridge Lithographing Company, a major American poster printer based in Cincinnati, produced the color lithograph. Touring melodramas of the 1890s relied on large, eye-catching posters like this one to draw audiences into local theaters, and the Highland costumes and military display were meant to suggest romance and spectacle. Its tall format and bold color make it a good example of how theatrical advertising was designed to be read from across a street.
