This lithograph presents Washington City and Georgetown as one view, with the Capitol and the Washington Monument, still unfinished in 1849, set against the two towns. Lithographs like this were popular in the 1840s, when printed city views gave Americans a way to see the young capital from a distance. The print was made by E. Weber & Co. of Baltimore and sold in Washington by Casimir Bohn. Its interest lies in the mix of a federal city still taking shape and an older river town, Georgetown, that stood apart from it.
