A 1917 color lithograph from the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic fraternal order founded in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1882, pairs a religious organization with wartime recruiting. The United States had entered the war in April 1917, and the Knights soon became one of the most visible civilian groups supporting American troops, running canteens and recreation huts and sending chaplains overseas. The subject headings also list priests as a theme, reflecting the clergy's role in encouraging enlistment and supporting men in uniform. The bottom edge of this copy has been cut, so part of the lower margin is missing.
