The German title, *Zeichnet Kriegsanleihe* ("Subscribe to the War Loan"), makes the poster's appeal plain, and this 1915 Austrian color lithograph by Erwin Puchinger is unusually large at about 127 by 95 centimeters. Its subject headings point to a knight and a mother with children, pairing images of chivalric duty with the domestic stakes of the war. Austria-Hungary financed much of its war spending through successive bond issues, and posters like this one were a major tool for persuading ordinary citizens to lend their savings to the state. The print's earlier owner, the Rehse Archiv für Zeitgeschichte und Publizistik, was a German collection of contemporary history materials.
