A goddess, rather than a soldier or a worker, anchors this 1917 Austrian color lithograph, whose title, *Zeichnet 8. Kriegsanleihe*, urges viewers to subscribe to the eighth war loan. The artist is credited as K. Sterrer. Austria-Hungary financed much of its World War I effort through bond drives like this one, which asked ordinary citizens to lend money to the state. Posters of this kind, printed in large numbers, were a main tool for turning patriotic feeling into subscriptions on the home front.
