Cheyenne chiefs and their family appear together on this stereograph card, issued around 1904 by the New York firm Underwood & Underwood, the year of the St. Louis World's Fair. The caption's phrase "descendants of America's aboriginal princes" reflects the romanticized and paternalistic way fairs of that era presented Native peoples, often as exhibits to be looked at. Viewed through a stereoscope, the two nearly identical side-by-side images merged into a single three-dimensional scene, which made cards like this a popular parlor item in the early twentieth century.
