Officers and non-commissioned officers of a company of the 93rd New York Infantry posed at Bealton, Virginia, a Union camp in Fauquier County in 1863. The record lists the company as "Co. J(?)," so the company letter is uncertain. Mathew Brady is credited as the photographer, and his studio sent crews into the field to record Union soldiers during the war. Portraits like this one show the sergeants and junior officers who kept companies running between marches and battles.
