Vik, a village in Eidfjord on the Hardanger Fjord, sits here among the steep slopes that rise from the water. The Detroit Publishing Company issued this view in its catalog J of 1905 as print number 7031, though the photograph itself probably dates from the 1890s. Photochroms were made by a Swiss process that printed color from photographs, giving travel scenes a painted look, and they were popular souvenirs of Norway's fjords among American and European travelers.
