A ramp stands on an open field in this glass negative, but the record does not say what it was built for or who built it. The National Photo Company worked in Washington in the early twentieth century and recorded street scenes, buildings and public events, so this view reflects the studio's broader effort to document the capital's daily life. The date range of 1909 to 1923 places it during a period of rapid growth in the city. Viewers should also note the streaks and blemishes on the plate, which come from the natural deterioration of the original coating rather than from the scene itself.
