Gonzaga School was a Jesuit institution for boys in Washington, D.C., part of a Catholic teaching order's long presence in the city. This glass negative is one of many the National Photo Company made of the capital in roughly 1909 to 1923, a period when the firm recorded schools, churches, and streetscapes for sale as views and postcards. The date is inferred from neighboring negatives and the title comes from the company's own unverified notes, so some details remain uncertain. Faint streaks and blemishes on the glass come from the natural deterioration of the original coating and add a worn quality to this early record.
