A streetcar wreck at the corner of 8th and F Streets NE in Washington, D.C., is the subject of this picture, a reminder of how heavily electric streetcars ran through the city in the early twentieth century. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio active in the capital at the time, recorded street scenes and news events like this one on glass negatives. The date of about 1921 comes from negatives in the same range, not from a confirmed record of this accident. The streaks and blemishes on the glass come from deterioration of the original coating, not from the scene itself.
