Issued by the United States Railroad Administration in 1919, this poster reflects a moment when the federal government ran the nation's railways, a role it held from late 1917 until early 1920. Its purpose was to encourage travel once wartime restrictions eased, presenting Yellowstone, established in 1872 as the first national park, as a destination within reach of the postwar traveler. The geysers that draw visitors to Old Faithful are part of the same landscape the poster offered to passengers bound for the park's rail gateways.
