Few posters in this collection draw a more direct comparison than this one, which sets an ordinary housefly beside a bomber and warns that the insect is just as dangerous. Made in 1941 in Philadelphia under the Federal Art Project, it belongs to the health education posters that Work Projects Administration artists produced for local public health campaigns, often using bold silkscreen color and blunt slogans to reach people who would never read a pamphlet. The bomber image also reflects the moment: war was spreading in Europe, aircraft were on everyone's mind, and the poster borrows that anxiety to make a household pest feel like a serious threat.
