The slogan turns a roster of Illinois workers into a pitch for reading, a theme the Federal Art Project's poster division returned to often during the Depression, when libraries and adult education programs were stretched thin. The silkscreen process, which let artists print bold flat color in multiple copies at low cost, gives the design its sharp shapes. The work is credited to I.K., and it is held in the Library of Congress's Work Projects Administration poster collection.
