This color silkscreen was produced by the Federal Art Project's Rochester, New York, unit, and its plain message, "Keep your teeth clean," is its defining feature. The Works Progress Administration's art programs, which ran from 1935 to 1943, used posters to carry public health and civic messages to people who could not afford advertising or large printed campaigns. Silkscreen suited the work because a single stencil could be pulled in several colors, producing inexpensive, durable posters in quantity. A date stamp on the back shows this copy reached a Washington office in September 1938, which places it among the program's late-1930s output.
