Dr. Wilbur F. Crafts, a Presbyterian minister and reform advocate, is the subject of this portrait, dated January 26, 1922. Crafts spent much of his career campaigning against Sunday mail delivery, liquor, and other vices, and he ran the International Reform Bureau from Washington. The National Photo Company, a Washington firm that made many studio and press pictures of officials and public figures in the early twentieth century, produced this glass negative. The surface shows streaks and blemishes from aging coatings, which are worth keeping in mind when judging the image's detail.
