Two glass negatives, exposed as a pair, combine into one wide panorama of a railroad bridge in Moniteau County, Missouri, dated October 9, 1901. The Detroit Publishing Company made the pair, a firm that sold views of American towns, rivers and rail lines to travelers and publishers in the early twentieth century. Railroad bridges like this one were central to how freight and passengers moved through rural Missouri at the time, and the wide format shows the span, its approaches and the surrounding land in a way a single standard plate could not.
