This view looks down on an arch bridge spanning the Connecticut River at Bellows Falls, Vermont, a mill village where the river drops through a rocky gorge and the falls powered industry for generations. The picture was made as a glass dry plate negative between 1905 and 1910 by the Detroit Publishing Company, which photographed towns, rivers, and scenery across the country and sold the views to travelers and publishers. The 8 by 10 inch format gives the bridge and riverbank a fine level of detail, and the marks penciled on the negative reflect how these plates were catalogued and reproduced.
