Glenn L. Martin and Donald W. Douglas stand among their Cleveland co-workers in this group portrait, gathered around a model airplane at the Glenn Martin Company. The picture dates to about 1919, though the print was made later, around 1930 to 1939. Martin's firm was building aircraft in Cleveland in those postwar years before it moved its operations to California. Douglas, who had worked as a designer for Martin, went on to found his own company, which became a major builder of commercial and military aircraft, and small models like this one were a common way to test ideas before full-size machines were built.
