Lincoln Music Hall stood at Ninth and D streets in Washington, and the title records that it was destroyed by fire on December 5, 1886. The negative itself was made much later, probably between 1909 and 1940, so it documents the site decades after the blaze rather than the hall in use. The National Photo Company, which photographed Washington streets and landmarks in the early twentieth century, made it. Its safety-film base and the streaks the catalog notes give the picture a worn, documentary quality.
