Few London recruiting posters name the exact office a man should visit, but this one lists two City addresses, 130 Bunhill Row and Winchester House on Old Broad Street. Byam Shaw, a painter and illustrator, designed the color lithograph to appeal to office workers, a group the Library of Congress catalog identifies as a target of wartime recruiting in Britain. The London Rifle Brigade was a Territorial battalion with roots in the capital's volunteer tradition, and by 1915 Britain needed steady replacements for a war that had lasted far longer than expected. The poster shows how individual units competed for men in London's offices and streets.
