Unlike many illustrated recruiting posters of the period, this lithograph relies entirely on its words, with the headline "The crisis. Answer to the call now!" doing the work. The Joint Labor Recruiting Committee issued it in 1915, and Roberts & Leete printed it in London. Britain still depended on voluntary enlistment at that point, and conscription did not arrive until the Military Service Act of January 1916, so posters like this carried much of the effort to bring men into the army. Its blunt urgency reflects the pressure on the country in the second year of the war.
