What sets this poster apart is its date: it announces that enlistment under the Group System would reopen on Monday, January 10, 1916, and continue until further notice. The scheme was devised in 1915 to fill the ranks without immediate conscription. Men attested for service in age-based groups and were called up in turn as their group was needed, so a poster like this told them when they could sign up. Its text-only design, with no illustration, leaves the appeal entirely to its wording, which reflects the wartime effort to persuade men to volunteer.
