Unlike the pictorial recruiting posters of the period, this one is pure lettering, and its single line, "Fight for freedom with the strength of free men," carries the whole appeal. The Parliamentary Recruiting Committee issued it in 1915, when Britain still relied on volunteers and conscription had not yet been introduced. The slogan presents enlistment as the choice of free men defending liberty, a framing meant to press hesitant men to sign up. Roberts & Leete printed it as a color lithograph in London.
