A drum is the detail that sets this poster apart from many other recruiting posters, since the catalog record lists drums alongside its soldiers. The poster was issued in London in 1915 by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee, which promoted voluntary enlistment in Britain before conscription began in 1916. Its slogan, "Everyone should do his bit," appealed to civilians to take part in the war effort, and the artist, Baron Low, signed the design. Posters like this one were printed in large runs and pasted on walls and hoardings across the country.
