The poster advertises a Federal theater Project production of *Sing for Your Supper*, a topical musical revue, and its tie to New York is recorded in the subject headings. The Federal theater Project was one of the arts units of the Works Progress Administration, set up in 1935 to employ theater workers during the Depression, and under its director, Hallie Flanagan, it staged inexpensive productions across the country. Revues like this one were built around current events and social issues, which made them popular with audiences and sometimes controversial with officials. The silkscreen color printing was a practical method for mass-producing posters on a tight budget, and the stamped date on the back shows the print was handled and filed years after it was made.
