Loch Katrine, which the record spells "Gatrine," is a lake in the Trossachs hills of central Scotland, made famous by Sir Walter Scott's 1810 poem *The Lady of the Lake*. By about 1903, steamers carried visitors across its waters, and this card's caption tags point to that steamboat traffic. The stereograph was issued by William H. Rau, a Philadelphia photographer who produced many travel views. Its two nearly identical images, seen through a viewer, combined into a single three-dimensional scene, a popular form of home entertainment at the time.
