Few views of the 1889 Exposition Universelle look inward like this one, which shows the entrance to class 26 inside the Galerie des industries diverses, a hall devoted to the varied manufactured goods shown on the Champ de Mars. The photograph is attributed to Napoleon Dufeu and comes from the Albert Tissandier collection, which preserved many images of the fair built around the newly completed Eiffel Tower. Halls like this one were meant to present French craft and industry to visitors from around the world, and interior views such as this one record how those displays were arranged and how crowds moved through them.
