Two sheets printed as a single diptych make this woodcut unusual: the record keeps them as separate left and right sections, and the work is catalogued as color woodcut. The catalog gives a date of 1750, but its subject heading points to ethnic groups in the 1800 to 1850 period, so the exact date remains uncertain. Color woodblock prints like this were built from a separate carved block for each color, and the engraver's skill in keeping the blocks aligned is one of the things to look for. Multi-sheet compositions let artists work at a larger scale than a single sheet allowed.
