A commercial storage building at 1140 15th Street Northwest, home to the Security Storage Company, is the subject of this view, which likely dates from sometime between 1910 and 1926. It comes from the National Photo Company, a Washington firm that produced a large body of pictures of the city's buildings and streets during those years, many of them sold as souvenir views. Herbert A. French gave the glass negative to the Library of Congress in 1947. Its streaks and blemishes come from the natural breakdown of the original coating, a reminder of how fragile these early plates were.
