The ironclad frigate *Aziziye* is the subject here, a warship of the Ottoman navy shown in a print captioned in both Ottoman Turkish and French. The Abdullah Frères studio, a well-known Constantinople firm that supplied photographs to the Ottoman court, made the picture sometime between 1880 and 1893. Its presence in an album tied to Sultan Abdul-Hamid II reflects the period's interest in modernizing the fleet, when the empire was investing in armored warships to keep pace with European navies. The print is useful for seeing how the Ottomans presented their naval power to visitors and to foreign observers.
