Main Street in Romeo, a village in Macomb County, Michigan, gives this view its particular setting, and the trolley on it places the scene in the years when electric streetcars and interurban lines were reaching small towns. The title also mentions an airplane, which is hard to reconcile with a date of about 1905, when powered flight was still only a few years old. The object may be a kite, a balloon, or a detail the catalog label described loosely, and the record does not settle which. Such street views show how early rail and road travel shared the same ground as the storefronts and foot traffic of a small town.
